Arusha to Ngorongoro via Lake Manyara

Arusha to Ngorongoro via Lake Manyara

You will be met by your guide in Arusha or at the Airport were we set off driving across the Great Rift Valley. We arrive at Lake Manyara National Park, located at the base of the escarpment. The park is wedged between the steep Gregory Rift wall and the soda lake, providing amazing landscapes with ample opportunity to see a variety of wildlife. The Alkaline waters of the lake attract large flocks of flamingo and pelican along with 400 species of birds recorded in the park. Along the northern side of the park the ground water rain forest also provides a lush environment perfect for Blue Monkey, Vervet Monkey, and Baboons. We then enter the acacia forest, where elephants and giraffe are commonly spotted in addition to mongoose, wildebeest, and buffalo. Lions and leopard are spotted on occasion. We then continue to the short grasslands on the lakes shores where we find hippo and an amazing amount of bird life. We then leave the park driving to our lodge in Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

The Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti

We start the day before sunrise following the crater rim to the descent road, enjoying the sunrise over the crater as we drive down to the crater floor arriving before the crowds and while the wildlife is most active. We start our game drive in the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago. The crater floor covers 100 square miles with steep walls mearsuring 610 feet in some areas. Not only do we find this amazing geographic feature but it has become a bit of a trap, with a massive population of wildlife that have stumbled into the crater, which today is estimated to be nearly 25,000 large animals, including buffalo, elephant, zebra, wildebeest, hyena, hippo, lions, ostrich, and other antelope. We enjoy lunch near the hippo pool of Ngoitokitok Spring, before driving out of the crater through the highlands and out onto the Serengeti plains were we find our camp.
