Day 1-3

Three night safari in the Okavango Delta

Three night safari in the Okavango Delta

You will be met at the airport and transferred by charter plane to Pom Pom Camp. With an atmosphere of warmth and ease, this classic-styled camp conjures the safaris of old, where fireside storytelling and debriefing the day's exploits, was as important as the game viewing itself. Built with canvas and traditional thatch, Pom Pom is simple and comfortable. Located in the heart of the Delta on an island of its namesake, the camp overlooks a permanent lagoon that commonly attracts elephant and hippo. Wildlife is prolific in this area and big cats are frequently seen.

Enjoy seasonal water-based activities —motor boat and the traditional dugout canoe—are great ways to see game and the myriad of birds. Game drives with your professional guide get you close to relaxed wildlife. Lion and cheetah can be seen, along with a host of other iconic species, from elephants and buffalo to baboons and, on occasion, honey badgers and the illusive pangolin.

Day 4-8

Explore the Okavango Delta by horseback

Explore the Okavango Delta by horseback

You'll be transferred by air to your next lodge, Macatoo, the ideal stop for experienced riders wanting to see the Okavango Delta. Leave the comfortable tented camp with your experienced guide and trot off into one of Africa’s prime wildlife areas. From your saddle, high above the long grass and reeds, you'll see giraffe, elephant, buffalo, many antelope species and even lion. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and an absolute must, even if you have to sell the family silver to get there. Not a horserider? Exploring the delta by boat or in a safari vehicle is just as rewarding.

This is an area of dangerous game, so you need to be an experienced rider to be able to keep up with the group (and your competent guide) and control your horse when riding fast over rough terrain. Beginner riders are not accepted. There's lots for non-riders to do though – boat trips, fishing and mokoro or game drives dependent on the water levels.

Discover the Central Kalahari Plains

You'll be transferred to Kalahari Plains camp by charter plane. This simple but upmarket, solar-powered camp is located on the edge of a huge pan, in the Kalahari Desert, in central Botswana. Set amidst striking landscapes, Kalahari Plains is perfectly positioned (off the beaten track) to make the most of them. Offering exceptional summer wildlife viewing, it is best known for its legendary black-maned lions and for having one of the highest concentrations of cheetah in southern Africa.

Activities include twice-daily game drives or full-day excursions, interpretive “Bushman Walks” and cultural tours with the local people who are descendants of the ancient Bushman clans of the area. The tours and walks reveal fascinating insights into their traditional lifestyles and intimate knowledge of the desert.
