Stay at a rustic bush camp with a luxurious touch on the edge of a floodplain
Within a private concession of Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park, Somalisa Expeditions sits tucked into a cluster of acacia trees, near the game-rich Kennedy vlei line. This rustic camp has bucket showers and is solar powered but also offers lovely indulgent touches and a high level of service. This mostly ground-level camp overlooks a much-frequented waterhole, especially popular with elephants. Game drives are generally very successful, especially when sticking to the water holes during the dry months. Elephant sightings are especially good at this time but a host of other wildlife can be seen in this region year-round including lion, leopard, hyena, zebra, kudu and sable. A walk with a Zimbabwean guide is a treat not to be passed on if possible and permitted by the grass level. Night drives can be undertaken on the camp's private concession - a chance to view the lesser-seen nocturnal residents like honey badgers, bush babies and hyena.

Relax at this stylish guesthouse on the doorstep of the Victoria Falls
This property is chic and modern yet harkens back to Victoria Falls' colonial roots with its extensive gardens and rambling verandahs. Just a fifteen minute walk from the heart of town and several activities, it's a convenient base that also offers peace and solitude from this busy adventure capital. Victoria Falls itself (locally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya - "the smoke that thunders") needs little introduction. Victoria Falls is a hub for adventure-seekers with seemingly innumerable adrenaline activities in the town and its surrounds. However, it's equally pleasant for those wanting to relax and take in the landscape in colonial style. Besides viewing the Falls from the adjacent national park, there are several ways to experience its magnitude: helicopter flights; rafting trips; sunset cruises on the Zambezi; bungee jumping and gorge swinging - not to mention the host of cultural experiences to be had in outlying areas, as well as decent wildlife regions nearby.

Safari in the game rich Chobe region in a rustic farmhouse-feel lodge
Simple but stylish, this small lodge is ideally-placed for adventures into the Chobe National Park. Nestled on a rocky ridge above the Chobe River, it overlooks the vast floodplains and game-rich river. An eco-minded outfit from the ground up, Chobe Elephant Camp is constructed with only the local wood that is in ample supply. You'll be venturing into the Chobe National Park most days for game drives, through an entrance gate just a 10-minute drive away. A boat cruise is possible for guests staying at least three nights and is an all-day activity (boat cruises start close to Kasane, about a 50 minute's drive away), but the game-viewing is most productive along the Chobe River so it's well worth the effort. Though this area is home to the largest population of elephants in Africa, it also hosts a rage of other wildlife in large numbers - especially buffalo, which congregate around the river in the dry season especially (June-November).

Experience the subtleties of the Okavango Delta
This intimate, eco-friendly camp is situated in the heart of the Jao concession, in the western part of the Okavango Delta. Unlike most Delta camps, it has no permanent structures and is only open in high water season, from about April to November. Pelo means heart, and refers to the heart-shaped island on which the camp is situated. Permanent floodplains surround the island, making the camp ideal for water-based activities, complete relaxation and unbelievable birding. It is a camp that will sooth your mind, body and spirit. Pelo Camp offers a rustic, water-based experience that will appeal to intrepid travellers intent on exploring the waterways of the Okavango Delta. Due to its island location, Pelo does not offer game drives, but the standard of the water experiences more than make up for this. Activities include relaxing meanders by mokoro, boat trips, catch and release fishing, and walks on the sandy islands where guests can learn about the cultural history of the River Bushmen.
