White Lady Painting

After breakfast, we make our way to Brandberg. On the way, we visit the Cape Cross. It is well known for its more than 250,000 Cape fur seals, the biggest mainland-breeding colony of seals in Namibia. Hundreds of years ago, Portuguese seafarers sailed southwards down the West Coast of Africa on voyages of discovery. To mark their progress, they erected wooden crosses that served as a navigational aid to other ships and also to mark their territory. These wooden crosses were in later years replaced with limestone pillars called "padraos".

The impressive Brandberg with its highest peak, Konigsberg, towering 2,573m above sea level, was actually 1,000 meters higher in the past. The area is known for its more than 30,000 examples of rock art, and our main attraction for the day is the famous White Lady Painting. We arrive at the lodge in the afternoon.
