Day 1-3

The Heavyweight Reserve

The Heavyweight Reserve

This morning you fly from Victoria Falls Airport to Hwange NP & The Hide Safari Lodge. You’ll enjoy 3 nights on a full board basis including game drives & guided walks.

Hwange is Zimbabwe’s heavyweight reserve and home to a wide range of big Africa mammals, especially elephants, buffalo and lion. The beauty of this area is in its diversity – vast, palm-fringed plains and classic grasslands are interspersed with acacia woodlands and teak forests and this diversity ensures the sighting of great numbers of animals all year round. You will also want to spend time in the hide that overlooks the popular waterhole.

Early morning walks are there for the thrill of encountering wildlife on its own terms and exploring the little surprises of the bush. Alternatively, the day can be spent further afield on game drives in search of predators and prey alike. We like to do things properly, so sundowners are an important part of the experience. The tents at the Hide overlook the busy waterhole.

Main Destination:
Hwange National Park
Best Time To Visit July to October (Middle and end of the Dry season)
High Season June to October (Hwange’s main area can become busy)

Your next destination is completely off-track. You’ll fly into Matusadona National Park, one of the country’s wildest reserves. And with its northern border nothing less than the shoreline of Lake Kariba, Matusadona is big game country and especially rewarding in the dry season when animals gather in great numbers at the lake. Changa Safari Camp gives you the chance to explore not just by 4×4 but by boat as well. Fly from Matusadona to Mana Pools National Park & check in at John's Camp for 3 nights on a full board basis. Game drives, walks, fishing & village tours.

Protecting a great stretch of Lower Zambezi River, Mana Pools National Park gives you the opportunity to add another dimension to your safari: game viewing by boat and canoe. John's Camp offers a multi-activity approach to its safaris and the mix of walking and game drives is especially rewarding for wildlife lovers. Bird watchers will tick off many species, and it’s a great area for predators including big cats, crocodiles and the extremely rare wild dog. Newly opened and built to exacting environmental standards, the camp’s location in a private concession means an exclusive experience.
