Day 1

Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park

You will be picked up from the airport or a city hotel before heading off to Lake Nakuru National Park, where you’ll arrive in time for lunch. In the afternoon you will embark on a game drive where you will have the opportunity to spot leopards, rhinos, and the famous pink flamingos (among others). Lake Nakuru’s claim to fame is anchored on its flamingos and the over 400 species of birds found here. The lake itself is a soda lake on the floor of the Rift Valley. It has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species—particularly the Rothschild’s giraffe and the black and white rhino. Lions, waterbuck, buffalo, and baboons are all residents here. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara

After a delicious breakfast at the lodge, you will continue to Masai Mara National Reserve, which is named in honor of the Maasai people, who are the ancestral inhabitants of the area. "Mara," which is the Maa (Maasai language) word for "spotted," is an apt description for the circles of trees, scrub, savanna, and cloud shadows that make up this area. It is famous worldwide for its exceptional population of lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the annual migration of zebra, Thomson's gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year from July to October (known as the Great Migration). All meals and your overnight stay will be at the Elangata Olerai Camp.
