On arrival at Kigali International Airport, our representative will be waiting for you and will brief you about your safari, then transfer you to your accommodation in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, you can visit some of Kigali's craft markets to see the pottery, weaving, sculptures, carvings, crafts and fabrics Kigali has to offer.

Day 2

Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre in Kigali town to experience how more than a million Rwandese lost their lives in a tribal conflict. Thereafter, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park, situated in northwestern Rwanda. It borders Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. Check in at your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Golden Monkey Trekking and Dian Fossy Hike

After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for the briefing on the golden monkey trekking. This rare monkey species is listed as endangered and Volcanoes National Park has two habituated groups available for trekking. We will return to the lodge for lunch as we prepare for the Dian Fossey hike in the afternoon. This guided hike takes you to where Fossey and Digit were buried and you can see the remains of her former research camp. Along the way, you will also learn more about Dian Fossey’s life and the tragic circumstances surrounding her death. You will see the house in which Dian Fossey was strangely murdered back in 1985. However, you will experience more peace at the place where she was laid to rest. It is close to her most-loved gorilla, Digit, and 20 other gorillas, some of which were killed by brutal poachers and others suffered death due to other reasons. After an amazing hour, return to the trailhead and drive back to the lodge for a relaxed evening.

Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, the safari will continue. Drive through the beautiful landscape of Rwanda and Uganda and cross Cyanika Border to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will either have a packed lunch, or a hot lunch en-route. You will arrive late in the afternoon. Relax at the lodge with stunning views of the beautiful rainforest where you will undertake the gorilla trekking the following day.

After breakfast, you depart with your picnic lunch. We drive to the park office for a briefing on the do’s and don’ts during trekking. Thereafter, we will enter the gorilla sanctuary for your next adventure. The trekking takes 4 - 6 hours, depending on the gorillas' movements. The beauty in this rainforest is spectacular. The area offers a dramatic, steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense, but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails, allowing access to tourists. Depending on your interest and time permitting, you may proceed for the optional community encounter or else relax at the lodge.

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha Sector

After a relaxed breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park with lunch boxes, through the southern part of the park in the Ishasha sector. This sector is famous for spotting tree-climbing lions on a lucky mid-morning, or you will see them resting in fig trees in the afternoon. Do a game drive in search of the tree-climbing lions, Cape buffaloes, elephants, Uganda kobs, warthogs, elephants and many tropical birds. Have your picnic lunch at the Ishasha River overlooking hundreds of hippos at a close distance. Thereafter, proceed with the journey to the northern part of the park. Check in at Mweya Safari Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Ride

Enjoy an early morning coffee, then go for a game drive to increase your animal count. Drive toward Kasenyi plains, the home of unique wildlife. Expect to see some members of the Big Five such as lions, buffaloes, elephants, and other mammals such as hyena, Uganda kob, warthog, waterbuck, bushbuck and various bird species. In the afternoon, you will go on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. It’s a relaxing cruise as you will appreciate the large number of elephants, crocodiles, hippos and buffaloes cooling off at the shores. See all the different species of birds, including great pelicans, both migrant and immigrant. You will then return to the lodge for sunset drinks and snacks while viewing the reflection of the sun in Lake Edward and the blue hills of the DRC in the distance.

Have an early breakfast, then continue the trip to Kibale National Park after a short game drive, crossing the equator line to Fort Portal town. You will proceed to Kibale National Park, arriving in time for lunch, then check in at Kyaninga Lodge. In the evening, embark on a Bigodi wetland excursion. This wetland boasts with an extensive array of biodiversity, including several primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, baboons, and various bird species such as the great blue turaco. Return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive to the park offices for a briefing, then start on the chimpanzee walk with a ranger guide. On a lucky day, you will see chimpanzees playing in the trees as they climb up and down, which will give you a soothing experience with them. They will make a lot of hooting noises, which makes them easy to locate. Return to the lodge for lunch and to relax. In the afternoon, you can go for an optional community and coffee tour to experience the livelihood of the local people.

Have breakfast, then drive through the beautiful landscape of the Albertine Rift Valley to Murchison Falls National Park. Head straight to the top of the mighty falls where the Nile squeezes through a 7-meter gorge to the 45-meter high falls. It is a very impressive view of the foaming waters rushing into the gorge with a deafening roar. It’s a beautiful sight for an incredible picture moment. Thereafter, proceed to Paraa Safari Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Have an early breakfast, then set off for a morning game drive on the northern delta. You may see Cape buffalo, Jackson’s hartebeest, Rothschild’s giraffe, oribi, waterbuck, jackal, bushbuck, bohor reedbuck, and warthog. The large carnivores include lions, elusive leopards and spotted hyenas. You will return to the lodge for relaxation before setting off for the afternoon boat trip on the Victoria Nile to the bottom of Murchison Falls. Here, you will be rewarded with spectacular views. A boat trip is a highlight on any trip in the Murchison Falls National Park. En-route, you will see hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants cooling off on the shores from the scorching sun and a variety of bird species. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

After your breakfast, we leave Murchison Falls National Park for Kidepo Valley National Park via Wankwar gate. We stop in Kitgum town for lunch en-route to Kidepo Valley National Park. Kidepo Valley is one of the wildest game reserves in Africa. The landscape throughout the park is comprised of small hills, inselbergs and rock outcrops which provide a stunning view in all directions. You will check in at Apoka Safari Lodge. In the evening, embark on a game drive along the Narus River Valley. Look out for elephants, jackals, zebras, antelopes, Jackson’s hartebeests and herds of buffaloes. Narus is the sector of Kidepo with grasslands mixed with acacia woodland. It's also the area of the park with permanent water sources throughout the year, therefore most of the animals are in this part. You will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

The day will begin with a game drive through the area with adequate circuits. We drive to the hot springs through the palm tree-lined Kidepo River, a seasonal river that does not flow during the long dry season. Search for ostriches, leopards and tortoises. The game sighting will be at close range. In the evening, drive to the nearby village where you will spend a wonderful time with the Karamojong pastoralists and gain insight into their life, culture and beliefs. Return to the lodge in the wilderness for your overnight stay.

You will then continue to Kampala for lunch and souvenir shopping at the African craft village. Later, you will be transferred to Entebbe to catch your flight back home.
