Day 1

Durban to St Lucia

Durban to St Lucia

Your four-day self-drive tour kicks off early morning in the sunshine city of Durban. Collect your SUV (Toyota RAV or similar) with GPS at King Shaka Airport, then start the drive along KZN's north coast toward St Lucia. But first, a visit to Isimangaliso Wetland Park. Spend a couple of hours exploring the Reserve's excellent game viewing roads, loops and bird hides. Hippo, Rhino, Giraffe and Elephant are some of the species you might encounter. Isimangaliso is a bird-watcher's paradise where large numbers of water birds such as flamingos, pelicans and storks gather. In the afternoon, drive to your accommodation in St Lucia to check in and freshen up before your estuary boat cruise on Lake St Lucia. On this fantastic cruise your will be able to get close to Hippo and Nile Crocodile while a knowledgeable guide shares information about Africa's largest estuarine system. Dinner to be enjoyed at the lodge or at one of the restaurants in town.

Day 2-3

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park

On Day 2 after breakfast, drive inland to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park for your two-night stay at Mpila, the Park's second largest Camp with lovely views of the bushveld. Enjoy a truly African bush experience as you immerse yourself in nature! Your tented accommodation is self-catering and has an en-suite bathroom and kitchenette. After checking in, enjoy self-drive game drives around the hilly landscapes offering excellent wildlife opportunities. Apart from being home to some of Africa's greatest mammals such as African Wild Dog, Giraffe, Cheetah, Kudu, Hyena, Elephant and many more, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi is especially recognized for its its excellent White Rhino conservation, which started back in the 1960's with project Operation Rhino. On Day 3 you have a full day to explore the Park's roads, hides and loops which are all well-marked. Perhaps drive to Hilltop Camp to enjoy the wonderful views from there and see more wildlife en route.

Day 4

Durban

Durban

Today you will make your way back to Durban. Enjoy a last game drive before exiting the gate. Time-permitting, a detour via the heart of Zululand, Eshowe, for a Zulu cultural experience (optional for an extra cost) is recommended. Drop off your vehicle at King Shaka Airport. Tour ends.
