Day 1

Early morning pick up from your hotel in city center - Depart Nairobi in the morning heading north via shoulder of Mount Kenya to Samburu Game reserve fro lunch. Afternoon game drive. The highlights of Samburu game reserve is the spectacular scenic beauty, rivers and forests. It is an area where the local people have a rich and colorful heritage. The reserves have numerous permanent springs and a wealth of wildlife which includes leopard, hippo, elephant, lion, reticulated giraffe, grevy’s zebra and crocodile in the Ewaso Nyiro River. Over 365 species of birds have been identified in the sanctuaries

Day 2

Marsabit

Marsabit

After breakfast we head north along the Trans Africa highway to Marsabit an extinct Volcano heavily forested on the upper slopes. Set up camp and visit the lodge inside the National Park sees elephants buffalo, greater Kudu among others as the lodge is perched on the edge of the water filled crater. Thick forest hampers deeper penetration and viewing so we don’t penetrate further. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 3

Kalacha

Kalacha

Visit Marsabit town and another volcanic crater and later come back into the desert and lava flows. Camp at Kalacha, which is a small settlement on the edge of the Chalbi desert. Dinner and overnight stay at Kalacha camp. Chalbi Desert is a virtually flat sandy landscape to the east of Lake Turkana was once part of the lake itself and during periods of unusual precipitation large areas still fill to form a very broad and shallow areas of standing water.

The village of Kalacha stands at the northern end of the desert, an oasis surrounded by doum palms and inhabited by the fascinating Gabbra people.

Day 4

Lake Turkana

Lake Turkana

Early morning departure crossing the Chalbi desert. When wet, the desert can not be crossed and alternative routes to the south and north are used. Arrive at the Palm shade camp outside Loiyangalani enjoying a cool breeze from the lake soon after lunch. Pitch tents and relax protected from the scorching sun and heat characteristic of the harsh climate of this remote area. Dinner and overnight stay at Palm shade camp.

Day 5

Lake Turkana

Lake Turkana

The day is spent relaxing and you may visit the local or hire a boat to visit the surrounding area (at an extra cost). In addition, we may visit Loiyangalani and the community settled there while in the evening visiting one of the Turkana Manyattas [optional] for traditional dances at an extra cost if clients wish. We can even visit the Elmolo tribe which is the smallest tribe in Kenya and have good time with them. Turkana, formerly L. Rudolf is now named after one of the tribes who live on its shores and it is in this area that Richard Leakey uncovered the three million year old fossils of ‘Homo Erect-us.’ This pre historic site is now known as the “Cradle of Mankind”.

Dinner and overnight stay at Palm shade camp.

Day 6

Maralal

Maralal

Pick up from your camp as early as 0630am after early breakfast.
We depart heading to Maralal - on arrival we will check in Sunbird Hotel which is just within Maralal town for refreshments. Maralal is the unofficial capital of the Samburu people and has a distinctly frontier feel about it. It is also home of the Maralal International Camel Derby that happens once a year between July and October and attracts riders and spectators from all over the world.
Dinner and overnight in Sunbird Hotel.

Day 7

Nairobi
