There are also smaller numbers of elephants and buffaloes.
You can visit the Maundi Crater in the park, from where you get amazing views out over the East African landscape. The park is also overlooked by Mount Meru, rising more than 4000m above the magnificent countryside. You will go to viewpoints that open out to spectacular views in every direction. Mkomazi National Park Rhino Sanctuary Day Trip
A game drive of Mkomazi National Park offers a unique pre-climb adventure. This one-day safari is dedicated to the cause of rhino conservation, and will also allow you to see some of Tanzania's local life and culture.
Mkomazi National Park, established as a rhino sanctuary in 1989 in collaboration with the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust, dedicates itself to the preservation of Africa's endangered rhino population. Exposed to the ever-present danger of poachers, who continue to be enticed by the traditional medicine market for rhino horns, rhinos are now on the endangered species list. In the park you will be able to see rhinos at close hand and in their natural environment.
In the evening you can put your feet up or go for a swim at the Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort at Marangu. Set into the foothills of the mountain, only a short distance from the Marangu Gate to Kilimanjaro, it sports the most luxurious garden toilets in the region!
