Kafue NP

On arrival into Lusaka, you will be met by your Pictus Safaris tour leader and transferred directly to your charter flight to Hippo Airstrip just outside of Kafue National Park. Here, you will be met by the excellent Kafue River Lodge team and transferred by road to the lodge itself.

The lodge is beautifully located, overlooking the river where many species come to drink throughout the day. Once you are settled in, you are welcome to head out on an afternoon game drive to seek out the wildlife that Kafue has to offer. Leopard, lion, elephant and much more are routinely observed here and, with the assistance of the local guiding team, we are sure your safari will start with a bang.

You will overnight at the well-appointed and superbly-staffed lodge.

Kafue NP

Two full days allow you to explore the area around the lodge as you see fit, accompanied by a local guide and your tour leader. The dense riverine forest gives up its secrets slowly, but patience will often reward visitors with exceptional sightings. Elephant and lion sightings are common, whilst guests could also be lucky enough to spot the elusive leopard. There is also a rich diversity of antelope species here, with plenty to keep guests entertained. Each evening guests have the option to head out on a night drive, which offers the hugely exciting opportunity to glimpse nocturnal creatures as they are at their most active.

Kafue NP

After a final morning game drive, guests will be transferred by road deep into the national park to the remote and beautiful Kasonso Busanga tented camp. A superbly located base for exploring the world-famous Busanga Plains, Kasonso is a real favourite of many clients.

Your first afternoon drive here will focus on the stunning plains themselves. It is here that the few remaining cheetah in Kafue can, with luck, be seen. The lion, leopard and wild dog viewing here can also be superb, as can the birding. There is simply too much to see to pack into one game drive, so we recommend using today to make a special effort to see the very special cheetah that persist here.

Kafue NP

Very rarely is the luxury of three full days to explore the Busanga Plains afforded to clients, and this is a wonderful opportunity to soak in this remarkable wilderness area. Morning and evening game drives give clients the best chance to locate cheetah, leopard and wild dog, and visits to the swampy interior of the plains may yield a rare glimpse of sitatunga, as well as ample sightings of lechwe and several other antelope species.
