Day 1

Blantyre

Welcome to the oldest city and commercial capital of Malawi, Blantyre!
You will be picked up at the airport by your guide and then taken to your accommodation in the city where we will be staying for one night. Today is a day of leisure, either to relax by the hotel, or exploring the city of Blantyre by visiting the famous Chichiri Museum, also known as the Malawi Musuem.
Please note that this museum closes at 17h and it is only open on week days.
Your guide will give you a briefing of the whole tour during dinner.

Day 2-3

Mount Mulanje

Mount Mulanje

Today we head towards the Mount Mulanje.
It is a large monadnock in southern Malawi only 65 km east of Blantyre, rising sharply from the surrounding plains of Phalombe, and the tea-growing Mulanje district. It measures approximately 26 kilometres long and has a maximum elevation of 3,002 m at its highest point called Sapitwa Peak.
Upon our arrival we will check into our accommodation, enjoy a nice lunch before heading to one of the tea plantations of the area followed by a short walk to the famous Dziwe la nkhalamba waterfalls.
We will head back to our accommodation at the end of the day.
On day 3 we will embark on a moderate hike in the Chambe Plateau in the Mount Mulanje.
The hike will take approximately 8 hours.
We will arrive at our accommodation in the middle of the afternoon where you will have time to relax before enjoying dinner.

Day 4-6

Liwonde National Park

Liwonde National Park

Today we leave the high plateaus to embark to the famous Liwonde National Park.
Home to the big five, the reserve covers 548 square kilometres of woodlands and dry savanna. A 30km section of the Shire River runs through the park including a section of the shore of Lake Malombe, 20 km south of Lake Malawi.
On our arrival to we will check into our accommodation and have lunch.
Later during the day, we will embark on our first game drive in the park.
On day 5 we will start our day by doing a morning game walk. Then you will have time to relax during the hot hours of the day before we leave for a boat safari in the Shire River.
On day 6 we will spend the day doing morning and afternoon game drives.

Day 7-8

Lake Malawi National Park

Lake Malawi National Park

Today we will do a last morning game drive in Liwonde National Park before we head towards the famous Malawi lake which is also known as Lake Nyasa in Tanzania and Lago Niassa in Mozambique. It is the fourth largest fresh water lake in the world by volume, the ninth largest lake in the world by area and the third largest and second deepest lake in Africa.
After check into our lodge we will have lunch next to the waters of lake Malawi before heading for a short excursion in the area. We will take a short walk around the nearby hills and head back to the lodge in Kayaks.
Take the rest of the day to relax.
In the morning of day 8 we will visit one of the nearby villages. This is an informal activity and will be arrange directly with the lodge as many options can be provided like visiting a clinic, a local school or orphanage.
In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to embark on a sunset dhow cruise.

Day 9-10

Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve

Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve

We leave the shores of lake Malawi to go north of the country into the Nkotakota Reserve.
It is the biggest and oldest wildlife reserve in the country, stretching for 1,800 square kilometres, it is a place that is ecologically and socially sustainable by increasing animal populations.
The park is home to antelopes, elephants, buffaloes, baboons, leopards, and warthogs and some 280 species of bird have been recorded in the reserve.
On our first day we will go for an afternoon game drive and hope to spot as many animals as possible.
We will head back to the lodge at the end of the day for a nice rewarding dinner.
On day 10 we will embark on a full day hike nearby one of the hills of the reserve.
We will also have the possibility to see some wildlife along our walk and learn more about the bush specially for the little things that can cross our pathway.
We will head back to the lodge in the middle of the afternoon for some time off before enjoying dinner.

Today we head towards the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe.
We will arrive during lunch time and have the rest of the day to discover the capital or visit a local food market, or simply enjoying the hotel facilities before our last dinner together in our hotel.
