Lovely Boutique Hotel in Pretoria
On arrival at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport you’ll be met by our representative, and transferred to Castello di Monte.
Built in the style of a 16th century Tuscan villa, this welcoming guest house looks out over the hills around Pretoria. Sunny terraces and beautiful gardens of olive trees and lavender bushes all add to the Italian feel.
Depending on what time your flight lands, you could ask the staff to arrange a guided tour of South Africa’s capital city.

On Board the World’s Most Luxurious Train
After breakfast on the rooftop terrace, you’ll be driven to Capital Park and the world’s most luxurious train. Arrive to red carpet treatment and chilled sparkling wine, before your butler shows you to your Deluxe Suite aboard the beautifully refurbished Edwardian-style train. There really is no finer way to see South Africa than on board Rovos Rail!
The following morning you stop at Kimberley for a city tour which includes a visit to the Diamond Mine Museum and the world’s largest man-made excavation, the Big Hole.
But the real highlight is enjoying life on board Rovos Rail, chatting to other guests as South Africa’s magnificent scenery flickers past your window. In the evenings everyone dresses for dinner, the sommelier on hand to recommend the perfect wine for each of the four delicious courses.

Matjiesfontein Stop & Spectacular Scenery
After breakfast you stop in Matjiesfontein for a red London bus tour of this charmingly preserved Victorian village. Back on board, the last section of your 1,600-kilometre journey is perhaps the most spectacular as you pass the mountains and vineyards of the Cape Winelands.
Enjoy a final high tea in the lounge carriage before arriving in Cape Town in the early evening. You’ll be met at Cape Town Station and driven to the Queen Victoria Hotel.
Staying in this stylish, tucked-away hotel puts you a short stroll from cafés, restaurants, boutique stores and the Robben Island ferry yet still somewhat removed from the bustle and buzz of Cape Town’s top attraction, the V&A Waterfront.

Cape Town’s Beaches, City & Mountain
In the morning you’ll be collected for a half-day private guided tour. Just a few of the day’s highlights include catching the cable car to the top of Table Mountain (weather permitting), the colourful houses and cobbled streets of the Bo Kaap Malay Quarter, and Greenmarket Square – an outdoor craft market with traders from all over Africa.
The following day you’ll get to see the beauty of the Cape Peninsular on a private guided tour of the beach-lined coasts. Visit the fishing village of Hout Bay, stand atop Cape Point’s rugged cliffs, see the penguin colony at Boulder’s Beach and the fynbos-filled gardens at Kirstenbosch. It’s a fantastically full day, after which you’re dropped back at your hotel.
That leaves a full day at leisure. Go to the beach, do a bit of shopping at the V&A Waterfront or set off to the Cape Winelands for wine tasting and a leisurely lunch surrounded by vineyard-and-mountain scenery.
