You'll be visiting one of the best safari parks in Africa when you come to Amboseli. The park is filled with big-tusked elephants, and Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain (5895m), looms over Amboseli. This combination makes for some fantastic photos, especially when the clouds clear over the summit as they do most days around sunrise and sunset. You also have a good chance of seeing lions, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, wildebeests and plenty of gazelles. The park is also terrific for birding, with 420 species recorded.
Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge offers you a combination of excellent location close to the centre of Amboseli and fine facilities. There's a swimming pool where you can relax, live entertainment most nights, and you can also enjoy the bar and restaurant, especially out on the open-air terrace. You're in for a real treat when you visit Lake Nakuru National Park. It's one of the best places anywhere for seeing both black and white rhinos, but there are other highlights as well, including the possibility of seeing lions (some even climb trees here), leopards, flamingos and endangered Rothschild's giraffes. Rich birdlife, pretty acacia forests, and a towering escarpment overlooking the lake all add to the natural drama.
Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge has one of the best locations anywhere in Lake Nakuru National Park. It's hidden away in a quiet valley filled with trees, but the lake and all its wildlife possibilities are really close by. Transfer Game Drive to Masai Mara National Reserve
One of our favorite places to look for wildlife in Kenya is the Masai Mara National Reserve. That's because the wildlife here is incredible, with big cats (lions, leopards and cheetahs) and elephants among the highlights. There's a very good chance you'll also see giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and, of course, impalas. And bring your binoculars, because more than 500 species of birds have been recorded in the reserve. It's a place of beautiful savannah landscapes as well, with lots of acacia trees.
Surrounded by trees and overlooking a bend of the Mara River, Ashnil Mara Camp is a wonderful base while you're in the Masai Mara. There's always lots of wildlife nearby including crocs and hippos in the river down below, the safari tents have wood floors and a real sense of quiet luxury. Enjoy also the swimming pool, massage and spa centre, and the views from the bar and restaurant.
