Day 2
Kigali - Nyungwe Forest - Mantis Kivu Marina Bay

Start for Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, make stops at places of interest including localmarkets, the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. In Butare, visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. Lunch. Drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest. [Approximate driving time: 5 hours]. Overnight and dinner at Mantis Kivu Marina Bay. Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and Dinner.

Go chimp tracking in the forest to see a variety of wildlife and some of the three hundred bird species found here, which include the Rwenzori Turaco and black and white casqued hornbill. Lunch. Return to Kigali or pass via Gisenyi to Ruhengeri. Drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known. [Approximate driving time: 6 hours] Overnight and dinner at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel (High end). Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters to track gorillas in Parc National des Volcano. Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills and swamps can be tough, arduous and tiring, sometimes taking up to 8 hours in the forest. But coming face to face with the great primates is well worth the effort. Overnight and dinner at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 6

Track the golden monkeys. Alternatively for those who are not up to it, simply relax at Camp. Return to Kigali. The Golden Monkey trek is one of the least strenuous activities in Volcanoes National Park. The monkeys live at the bottom of the mountain range in the bamboo forest and terrain here is relatively flat and easy to trek. Basic fitness is therefore enough.

Return and departure
Return and departure
Time permitting; go for a tour of the city. This includes a visit to a genocide memorial. Traditional crafts can be bought. Transfer to airport. [Approximate driving time: 30mins]. Meal Plan: Breakfast. End of service.
