Murchison Falls National Park
You’ll depart from Bushpig Backpackers at 7am to drive north towards Murchison Falls NP. After about four to five hours you’ll cross over the mighty River Nile as it crashes down Karuma Falls where you will stop for your picnic lunch. It’s then over the river, being sure to dodge the baboons basking in the sun by the road and enter Murchison Falls NP at Chobe gate. On entering the park you will begin your afternoon game drive through Acacia woodlands to look for the herds of giraffe grazing on the trees before continuing on to the savannah plains to seek lions, game herds and elephants. After your game drive you’ll drive to camp to as the sun sets over the Albert Nile. Be sure to watch out for more elephants near your camp as they head down to the waters edge in the early evening!

Game Drive & Falls Cruise
Rise early and leave your camp and drive through into the heart of Murchison Falls NP. The early morning light will provide excellent photo opportunities and usually plenty of animal activity before the heat of the day sets in. You’ll be joined by a knowledgeable Uganda Wildlife Authority guide to help track down specific wildlife so keep an eye out for the elephants, leopards, lions, warthogs and giraffes as well as large game herds such as antelope and buffalo. You’ll then have time to stop for your lunch by the river Nile before taking a water safari to the base of Murchison Falls. As you make your way upstream to the thundering base of the falls, you’ll be passing large numbers of giant Nile crocodiles and hippo pods as well as a vast range of birdlife. On your return you’ll drive north through the savannah out of the park boundaries back to your accommodation for the night.

Rhino Tracking
This morning cross back over the River Nile and follow the river upstream to reach the top of Murchison Falls to explore where the entire Nile, splendidly squeezes through a seven-metre gap in the rock face. Enjoy the splash and rainbows! Then drive south through Kaniyo Pabidi forest. Watch out for large groups of baboons socialising in the forest and exit the park through the southern gate and head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (*for an additional cost). You’ll soon reach the sanctuary where you’ll be guided on foot by an experienced and knowledgeable ranger to visit Uganda’s most endangered creature, the Southern White Rhino. This is the only place in Uganda where they still survive and breed with the hopes of one day being reintroduced to Murchison Falls NP. After tracking we’ll drive you back to Kampala where you will be dropped off at Bushpig Backpackers in the early evening, before dark.
