Transfer from the Airport to Manyara Safari Lodge or Hotel in Arusha or Moshi, the choice is yours

Manyara Safari Lodge is an incredible boutique hotel located on the escarpment, offering gorgeous jaw dropping views of the lake below, right on the border of Lake Manyara National Park, which means no park fees or wildlife management fees are required.

Owned by Heritage Camps and Lodges, the brand is renowned for the entertainment and delicious food that they provide, with acrobats, musicians, singers, and dancers all entertaining the guests every night, along with wild elephants who are regular visitors.

Boasting incredibly comfortable rooms, and a unique wilderness wow factor due to the lodge's location, we highly recommend sleeping at Manyara Safari Lodge on the first night to fall asleep to the sound of lions roaring, elephants rumbling, and hyena giggling under the African stars.

However, driving from the airport to the lodge takes around 3 hours, so guests can choose to stay in a hotel in Arusha or Moshi if they have a late arrival or worry they'll feel overly fatigued.

Tarangire National Park; Elephants, Lions, Leopard, Cheetah Galore

This national park is often people's favourite park on the northern safari circuit outside of the Serengeti since there is so much wildlife waiting around every corner and this is the park to visit if you want to see the big cats outside of the Serengeti.

Thanks to a heterogenous array of topography which provides lots of different plant and tree species ample room to grow, a diverse array of herbivores has been attracted to the area, which is why Tarangire National Park is the “Home of the Elephants” in Tanzania, along with lots of other species including buffalo, eland, gemsbok, zebra, wildebeest et al. Naturally, this attracts the attention of the predators that are always following closely behind their prey, the lions, leopards, cheetah, caracal, serval, jackal et al.

While there are no guarantees, nine times out of ten safaris, you are likely to see a cheetah, a leopard, and a lion in Tarangire National Park, the best chance to see a leopard outside the Serengeti.

Leave the Serengeti in the Rear View Mirror as you Head West to Mwanza on the Shore of Lake Victoria

Leave the Serengeti in the Rear View Mirror as you Head West to Mwanza on the Shore of Lake Victoria

Mwanza’s growth can be traced back to the days of the slave trade, as the trading caravans of the Sultan of Zanzibar used the location as the frontier to the unexplored African interior in search of gold, ivory and slaves.

Later, European explorers such as Dr David Livingstone, Henry Morton Stanley, John Hanning Speke and Richard Francis Burton, followed the same route, each of whom spent many nights in Mwanza on their adventures.

Mwanza got the nickname Rock City because of the gigantic rocks jutting out of the lake waters and strewn inland, giving the city a unique topography.

Mwanza is the second largest city in Tanzania and as such, has plenty of restaurants, hotels, markets, bars, clubs, banks, and supermarkets, not to mention beautiful beaches, upon one of which is the Hotel Tilapia, right on the shore of Lake Victoria, less than a kilometre's drive to the city centre, the perfect place to relax.

Rubondo National Park: An Island Paradise Full of Wild Chimps, Boat Safari, Birds, Hippos & Primates

The pristine Rubondo Island is 75 percent forest, which guests can explore on drives and walks while learning about the animals and plants that make up this extraordinary protected ecosystem.

After arriving from Mwanza, you will have lunch before going on an afternoon boat safari to explore Lake Victoria and the pristine shores of Rubondo National Park.

Keep an eye out for hippos, elephants, crocodiles, otters, and monitor lizards.

The waters around Rubondo are full of tilapia and huge Nile perch, one of the most sought-after freshwater fish.

December to March is the best time for birding when the migrants stop on Rubondo on their way from Europe. At the peak of the season, there are more than 300 bird species. While birding can be enjoyed on the land, boat trips also offer optimum viewing of what can usually only be heard within the dense forest.

Wild Chimp Trekking in the Morning Before Returning to the Magical City of Mwanza in the Afternoon

Wild Chimp Trekking in the Morning Before Returning to the Magical City of Mwanza in the Afternoon

7 million years ago, chimps and humans shared a common ancestor, which is why we share ninety nine percent of our DNA. In a way, seeing a chimpanzee in the wild is rather like peering through our evolutionary history to see how our arboreal ancestors once lived. Scientists believe that the only reason the lineage diverged is because we eventually came down from the trees to start migrating long distances. Adapting to a terrestrial lifestyle presented a fresh set of selection pressures, which in turn drove our evolution. Legs grew longer, big toes turned forward, ultimately leading to bipedalism three million years later. Walking on two feet freed the hands for tool use, threat displays and food gathering, all the while, the chimps remained in the relative safety of the foliage above.

This morning you will have the opportunity to come face to face with a troop of wild chimpanzees, an incredibly emotional experience staring into human eyes that leave our guest's breathless with wonder.

Leave Mwanza in the Rear View Mirror as we drive East back to the Centre of the Serengeti

When many of us dream of an African Safari adventure, it’s the Serengeti our minds turn to, exotic images of megafauna roaming the African plains, left to their natural devices in fifteen thousand square kilometres of national park, an animal lover's dream come true, all thanks to the plethora of wildlife documentaries that have been filming the dynamic equilibrium of animal interactions within the park for the last eighty years, including David Attenborough, one of the most famous wildlife naturalists in the world.

The Serengeti is truly a magical place that is an absolute must for any safari itinerary and due to the logistics of reaching the park, a minimum of two nights is highly recommended.

Another Action Packed Full-Day of Safari in the Serengeti Exploring Nature's Miracles

Another Action Packed Full-Day of Safari in the Serengeti Exploring Nature's Miracles

Among Africa's many savanna regions, the Serengeti (or Serengeti Plains) is the most well-known. The Serengeti is a vast, undulating plain that stretches 30,000 square kilometers (11,583 square miles) from Kenya's Maasai-Mara game reserve to Tanzania's Serengeti National Park.

The Serengeti is home to one of the continent's highest concentrations of large mammal species, including lions, hyenas, zebras, giraffes, and elephants. Each year, more than one million wildebeest travel in a circular migration, following seasonal rains, across the Serengeti Plains. Their grazing and trampling of grass allows new grasses to grow, while their waste helps fertilize the soil.

The biological diversity of the park is very high with at least four globally threatened or endangered animal species: black rhinoceros, elephant, wild dog, and cheetah.

Overnight at Heritage Luxury Tented Camp in the Centre of the Serengeti, the perfect place to start your safari in earnest.

Ngorongoro Crater, a Fishbowl Full of Wildlife, Including Black Rhino, Lions, Buffalo, and Hippo

The Ngorongoro Crater is a veritable fishbowl filled to the brim with a diverse array of wildlife, the hollowed out remains of a shield volcano which one stood higher than Mount Kilimanjaro, the Roof of Africa, which erupted two million years ago to create the twenty one kilometre wide national park we know and love today.

The main attraction of the Ngorongoro Crater is the incredibly rare black rhino population of over fifty individuals, which are supported by the year round water supply and lush vegetation due to the volcanic soil, along with one of the densest population of predators in the world, including lion, hyena, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard.

Lunch will be enjoyed at a picnic site beside a hippo pool so you can eat a sandwich right next to some sleeping hippos, which is every bit as incredible as it sounds!

The Ngorongoro Crater National Park is a must for anyone who wants the chance to see all of the big five: leopard, rhino, buffalo, lion & elephant.
