Day 1-5

Cape Town and a feast of fun begins

Cape Town and a feast of fun begins

A taxi picks you up at Cape Town International Airport on your arrival. Transfer to the elegant, gracious hotel on the slopes of the famous Table Mountain, the Mount Nelson. Settle in to your sumptuous room with its gorgeous garden and city views. This historic hotel is a Cape Town landmark, and the buzzing Waterfront is a short cab ride away.

A feast awaits daily in the high-ceilinged breakfast room. Then explore. You are in wine country - taste, experiment! Hop on the open top Red Bus, perfect on a sunny day. Do a wine tour with Wine Escapes to the lush estates of Franschhoek or Stellenbosch. The Waterfront is a working harbour with great shops; watch seals play in the water. Take a sunset cruise. Visit Kirstenbosch Gardens, go up Table Mountain; see Cape Point. Have lunch and a chilled glass of wine with your feet in the sand at the Grand Cafe and Beach (put the diet on hold). And shop. There's art galore, galleries aplenty, and some superb museums like the Zeit.

Day 6-9

It's safari time

It's safari time

A direct flight mid-morning takes you from Cape Town to the Greater Kruger area, for the most memorable safari. Ngala is an exclusive reserve enjoyed only by its own guests. The guiding is outstanding: trained, enthusiastic guides and trackers will reveal all there is to be seen here, a marvellous array of wildlife which includes the Big 5. It's possible to go off-road here, if your guide chooses to. Be prepared to take some amazing photos, because you'll get up close to the wildlife; the quality of your game drives are on a par with those in the Sabi Sand Reserve.

You'll dine under the stars at night around the roaring fire in the atmospheric "boma". The chalets are spacious, airy and supremely comfortable. There's a sparkling pool to cool down in at midday, before a delicious lunch. This is safari life at its very best. The only difficulty you'll encounter at Ngala is leaving it.
