Your guide will meet you at your hotel for a short tour briefing. We start by driving through Johannesburg CBD to Soweto. In Soweto, you have the opportunity to meet some of the residents of the settlement and learn more about their way of life. We visit the Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial, located in Orlando West, just two blocks away from where Hector Pieterson was shot and killed on June 16, 1976. Afterward, we walk down Vilakazi Street, passing iconic monuments and the homes of Nelson and Winnie Mandela, as well as Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The next stop is the Orlando Towers, where you can have lunch at a popular restaurant at the base of the massive towers. Alternatively, we visit a local restaurant in the community, where you can enjoy a traditional meal, including shisa nyama. In the afternoon, we see the world-famous Apartheid Museum for a short history of South Africa and the struggle of its people during the apartheid era. After the museum visit, we will head back.
