Day 1

Arusha to Arusha National Park

Arusha to Arusha National Park

Your safari begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha. After a brief safari briefing, you embark on a short drive (approximately 45 minutes) to Arusha National Park. Despite being the smallest park, it is incredibly diverse and often underrated. The park boasts a spectacular backdrop of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest peak.
Your game drive begins, exploring the lush montane forest, the tranquil Momella Lakes (notable for their algae-coloured flocks of flamingos), and the open savannah. You are likely to see herds of buffalo, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and a variety of antelope species like the beautiful black-and-white colobus monkey, which is commonly seen here. Elephants and leopards are present but more elusive. A unique and highly recommended addition is a guided canoe safari on one of the Momella Lakes (optional, at extra cost). This offers a serene and completely different perspective for bird watching and viewing hippos and other animals coming to the water's edge.

Karatu to Lake Manyara National Park

Karatu to Lake Manyara National Park

After an early breakfast, you drive to Lake Manyara National Park (a short drive from most lodges). This park is famous for its unique groundwater forest, giant fig and mahogany trees, and the alkaline lake that covers a large part of the park. The main famous attraction is its tree-climbing lions. While seeing them requires luck, the park is teeming with other wildlife: large troops of baboons and blue monkeys, elephants, hippos, and if you're lucky, a large tusker or two. The lake itself attracts thousands of flamingos and other water birds, creating a spectacular pink hue along the shoreline.
Enjoy a packed lunch inside the park or at a picnic site before beginning your journey south-west towards Lake Eyasi. The drive offers a dramatic change in scenery, from fertile green highlands to the dry, dusty, and rugged landscape of the Rift Valley escarpment.

Day 3

Lake Eyasi to Karatu

Lake Eyasi to Karatu

Morning (Very Early Start): This day is dedicated to a profound cultural experience. You will wake up before dawn to meet your local guide and venture out to meet the Hadzabe Bushmen. The Hadzabe are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in Africa, living much as they have for thousands of years. You will accompany the men on a morning hunt as they use traditional bows and arrows with poison tips, and learn about tracking and foraging for roots and tubers with the women. It's a raw, authentic, and humbling glimpse into a way of life that is rapidly disappearing.
Late Morning: After the hunt, you will visit a nearby Datoga Tribe homestead. The Datoga are pastoralists and skilled blacksmiths. You will learn about their culture, see their traditional homesteads (Bomas), and witness the fascinating process of how they create tools and jewelry from metal and brass, often trading these with the Hadzabe.

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

After an early breakfast, you descend the steep, forested path into the Ngorongoro Crater – often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World." This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and functions as a natural enclosure for an incredibly high density of wildlife. The crater floor is a self-contained ecosystem, making it one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and critically endangered black rhino) in a single day. You are also likely to see large herds of wildebeest and zebra, Grant's and Thomson's gazelles, hyenas, hippos in the swamp, and thousands of flamingos on Lake Magadi.
You will enjoy a special packed lunch at a designated picnic site near the hippo pool, a fantastic experience in the heart of the crater.
