This is our second trip with African Ubuntu Safaris, the first was five years ago for six weeks, and this trip was four weeks long. We are both African born but we now live in Australia, and have done many safaris in our lives, yet Cuan was able to create an itinerary that was exciting and unusual and we saw more wildlife than even Africans imagined possible! Cuan spends time asking questions ... Read more before he starts to plan a trip, and seems to have a magic touch (or intuition) which helps him capture the very experience we wished for and to select amazing camps to stay at - every single time! - with highly professional guides, great accommodation and delicious food.
Every single day was an unforgettable and wonderful adventure. But if we must choose the highlights: Stanleys Camp in Botswana and walking with Jabu and Marula, the elephants, was a privilege and a highly emotional experience. Sausage Tree Camp in Zambia - what a glorious place! - and our outstanding guide Alix and taking a mokoro on a three hour trip down the mighty Zambezi - and fishing for Tiger Fish - was unforgettable. (No, MINE was the biggest .....!) And Kaya Mawa in Lake Malawi for a luxurious rest at the end of our trip - it was incredibly beautiful, and totally unexpected, a combination of Fiji, Bali, and the Caribbean!
We highly recommend Cuan and his Dad, Gerald, in South Africa. In a continent where so much can go so very wrong - Cuan's attention to detail ensures your comfort, safety and delight. Thank you so much! Start planning the next trip for us Cuan!
Diederick organised our holiday of a lifetime to Africa - specifically the Serengeti and Uganda. We were not sure exactly what we wanted but he organised our trip with our input and he had every little thing covered - pickups, accommodation and the safaris and Gorilla tracking in Uganda. Everything was magnificent! We didn't have to worry about anything! We have never been to Africa before and I w ... Read moreould highly recommend African Ubuntu Safaris - they were awesome!
We travelled to South Africa and Zambia in August. We were met at all arrivals making connections and onward travel easy. Cuan’s father Gerald met us at the Johannesburg airport and transferred us to our hotel in Sandton which was much appreciated.
The whole holiday flowed very smoothly without any hiccups.
The camps were exactly what we wanted, small, personal and in great locations. The wil ... Read moredlife viewing blew us away. We knew we’d see animals but the variety and numbers were unexpected.
For us the camps were part of the experience. Low key but high quality. The food, the comfort of the lodgings and the service were all top notch! We had our first game drive at Tafika and what a time we had. Leopard being chased by wild dogs and two lions mating. We had Hippos ho ho hoing on the river side of camp and Elephants wallowing on the other. Although it was busy viewing around Nkwali we saw plenty of wildlife including a large pride of lions all lounging in the grass seemingly oblivious to the game vehicles driving around them. As we returned to camp one evening we heard the most amazing roar down the valley just on sunset. I’ll never forget it!
And Potato Bush on the banks of the great Zambezi. Lion, leopard and wild dog and that view!
We loved the whole experience and hope to return one day. If we do we will most certainly use the expertise of Cuan and his team at Ubuntu Safaris.
Most of the communication was via email except for the odd call from Cuan to clarify things that I misunderstood or misinterpreted. The tour met all expectations.
What was even more impressive, was when we had questions or concerns while we were in Africa we were able to get prompt answers from Ubuntu
Everything was perfect! From our initial enquiry, Diederick could not have been any better! Our questions and queries were answered quickly and all of our requests and his numerous expert recommendations were included in a personalised itinerary. There was not one hiccup in the organisation and bookings and it was great comfort knowing he was in Africa if needed. It was also fabulous to be m ... We will definitely travel to Africa again and will enlist African Ubuntu Safaris assistance in once again constructing the best adventures and animal encounters ever!
Thanks to Cuan and his team for arranging our tour to Africa. This tour was organised to perfection with an itinerary to meet our specific needs. We visited various wildlife parks in Kenya and Zimbabwe, all with differing wildlife and environments. What we experienced was amazing, including a lion kill right in front of our vehicle. The lodges we stayed in were stunning and the staff everywhere we ... Read morere extremely welcoming and friendly. Right from the first day of planning this trip, we were kept informed of all arrangements, with many helpful suggestions along the way. We think this trip was 10 star, not 5 star and we cannot thank Ubuntu Tours enough and highly recommend them. The only warning I would give is be prepared for a bumpy ride as the roads are terrible but that's not Ubuntu Tours fault.
We were referred to African Ubuntu Safaris by friends who had used them previously. Cuan at Ubuntu Sydney tailored a package to meet our requirements (Tanzania itinerary, timing and cost) and the planning and the trip itself flowed without any connection or logistic difficulties. The tented camp experiences were particularly enjoyable and all accommodation was of a high standard. The local on-gro ... This trip certainly ranked with trips taken to Botswana and Zimbabwe 15 to 20 years ago.
Diederik put together a tailor made Samburu, Mara and Zanzibar Safari ( 13 days) for us . The trip really captured the essence of safari in Kenya, in two different landscapes- Samburu and Mara. On arrival, we stayed at the Boma Hotel in Nairobi- a very comfortable oasis from the heat of Nairobi. Then we flew to Samburu, for 3 nights at Elephant Bedroom Camp. It was amazing to see elephants wander ... Read more around the camp, and to see so much wildife in their natural habitat. The camp was very comfortable, with great food. We were also fortunate to have the services of Julius our guide.
We then flew to Mara for 3 nights at Ol Seki Hemingways Mara. Again great accommodation and food, and 2 great guides- Isaac and Agnes.
After week in Kenya we flew to Zanzibar for 5 nights- 1 night in Stone Town and 4 nights at The Z Hotel at Nungwi( on the beach). It was a very relaxing end to our safari- enjoying the clear waters of The Indian Ocean.
Diederik did an amazing job organising the trip- accommodation, tranfers and internal flights.. I would definitely recommend African Ubuntu Safaris!!!
The safari tour was exactly what we had requested. Varied and excellent accommodation, wonderful wildlife, efficient, friendly guides who did their utmost to make sure we got the best experiences on our trip. Our small group Botswana/Zimbabwe tour was perfect. The vehicles used were comfortable. Our visit to the Impenetrable Forest in Uganda to see the gorillas was an absolutely amazing experi ... The whole trip was great value, and the extra attention to detail, for example, being met by a South African member of Ubuntu at Johannesberg airport and being escorted to our hotel on the first night, and being met at Boma Guesthouse by Ubuntu’s Ugandan rep on landing in Entebbe made all the difference.
A huge thank you to Cuan McLaren at Ubuntu in Sydney for making it happen!
African Ubuntu Safaris were able to put a trip together very quickly for my girlfriend and myself. We had done limited research as the trip came around very quickly for us. We were very happy with the initial discussion regarding our holiday with Cuan and his team. Cuan was able to guide us through our itinerary, suggest some changes, made some great suggestions and then made it all happen. A trip ... Read more of a life time!
Even though several iterations to our itinerary were required Ubuntu Safaris were able to make it all happen in record time.
We loved our safari experience, it was 'real', no frills but connected us to the animals and land. An experience we will never forget.
I would definitely recommend Ubuntu Safaris and in fact already have.
