The word Kalahari derives from the word Makgadigadi, meaning salt pans in the language of the indigenous Kgalagadi people living in the region. More than 1000 pans are scattered throughout the park. The vast area referred to as the “arid Kalahari” engulfs The Kgalagadi Trans frontier Park one of Africa's largest conservation areas and in the world and one of the last truly unspoiled ecosystems. This is a Birder’s, endangered species and cat paradise. Home of the desert black maned lion.
