The Maasai Mara is a large game reserve in South-West Kenya. The name is derived from the Maasai people and the Mara River which divides it into eastern and western parts. Every year about 2.5 million wildebeests and hundreds of thousands of zebras wander through the Masai Mara between June and October. All the big five are abundant in the Mara besides other animals such as cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, wildebeest, and crocodiles among others. There are also over 470 species of birds.
