Maputo National Park is not solely a safari destination. Aside from wildlife viewing, the park is visited for its birdlife, beaches, fishing and snorkeling. The ideal time to visit depends on your main interests. July to October are best for land-based wildlife viewing. July to November is when migrate past. Late October to late March is when lay eggs on the beaches. Birding is best from November to April.

Best Time July to October (The bush is dry and animals are easy to find)

High Season Mid-December to mid-January (The park is busy during South Africa's school holidays)

Low Season None (The park never gets busy aside from South Africa's school holidays)

Best Weather April to September (It is cooler and it hardly ever rains)

Worst Weather January and February (Hot and wet)

May to September Dry Season – Winter

Wildlife viewing is at its best
It is sunny with little rainfall
Conditions are pleasant and it isn’t too hot
There are few mosquitoes around and malaria risk is minimal
can be seen from July to November
The bush looks dry and scenery is less spectacular
Early mornings are cold from May to September

October to April Wet Season – Summer

Landscapes are green and lush
Prime bird-watching time with migrants present
There are many newborn animals
Mornings and evenings are lovely and mild
season is from October to May
Wildlife viewing is better in the Dry season
Very hot and humid during the day
Malaria prevention is a bigger concern
