Fantastic in every way
We stayed at Desta’s hotel in Lalibela and he took us on a tour of the churches. The accommodation is fantastic, the best place to stay in Lalibela. Wonderful food and service. Desta’s tour of the churches was excellent. He is extremely knowledgeable, with perfect English. Definitely the best way to see Lalibela.

Exceptional, thoughtful, and truly personal experience in Lalibela
I had an excellent experience with Desta Tour in Lalibela in December 2024. Everything was handled in a very professional way, from the preparation phase to the very last moments of my stay.
I am an experienced traveler and photographer and usually plan my trips in detail. I truly appreciated the helpful and knowledgeable input already before the journey, which allowed us to shape a well-balanced itinerary in advance. Special attention was given to creating the best possible conditions for photography, including timing, locations, and light, which made a real difference.
From the moment I arrived, the welcome at the accommodation made me feel like a family member rather than a guest. The New Year celebration with other travelers was especially delightful. I also appreciated the help with the charity clothing I brought and the professional guidance throughout my stay in Lalibela and while exploring the surroundings.
I can highly recommend Desta Tour to anyone looking for a reliable, well-organized, and personal travel experience in Lalibela.

Desta Tours is truly professional: well organised, reliable, responsible and knowledgeable.
I took the Historical and Danakil tour for a couple of weeks and would do it again tomorrow, in spite of my eighty years of age. Every day was different and impressive, from Tigray’s dry rocky landscapes hiding unreachable ancient churches, to friendly baboons foraging in the dramatic Semien mountain meadows. I found amazing the differences in Church architecture, from those on Lake Tana to the carved rock ones in Lalibela. I was astounded to discover Ethiopian empires I had never learned about in school: Axum (at the time of Christ) and its collection of stelae, and the Medieval castles in Gondar were for me quite unexpected, exciting discoveries. Everywhere the commentaries and information were complete. There were some long, tough drives in the Danakil Depression, where camping was basic, but well worth the unique experience of exploring the colourful salt of Dallol and the live volcano Erta Ale. Throughout my thought-provoking Ethiopian adventure I always felt safe and cared-for by Desta Tour’s attentive guides, drivers and assistants.
