OUR TOP DESTINATIONS
Botswana is reknowned for its stunning, unspoilt natural habitat, incredible wildlife and luxurious safari lodges and is by far the ultimate safari destination. Gumasema Adventures & Safaris offers the service and knowledge a discerning leisure traveller seeks whilst on vacation, with the intention of seeing and appreciating the numerous sights in the area. Keeping in mind the comforts of a tourist, our fleet is very well maintained and designed as per customer standards and expectations. The following game reserves, national parks, towns / villages are our main destinations:
*Maun – Maun, Botswana's tourism capital, is a great starting point on any Botswana safari. It lies on the southern fringes of the Okavango Delta, and still, despite recent modernizations, carries the feeling of a dusty, frontier town. For many tourists, Maun is the point of entry into the Okavango Delta, and often into Botswana, with direct flights from both Johannesburg and Gaborone. The area features camps as well as lodges. Dining and transportation options are also available. Maun can also be a central destination while visiting other attractions throughout the country.
*Okavango Delta – Located in Botswana, the Okavango Delta is one of the most awesome and breathtaking destinations in Africa. It is a vast inland river delta known for its sprawling grassy plains, which flood seasonally, becoming a lush animal habitat. The Moremi Game Reserve occupies the east and central areas of the region. Here, dugout canoes are used to navigate past hippos, elephants and crocodiles. From big cats and predators like leopard, cheetah, lion, and wild dog to much bigger animals like elephants and hippos, there is a lot to see and experience.
*Moremi Game Reserve - Moremi Game Reserve is in northern Botswana, in the Okavango Delta, which becomes a lush animal habitat during seasonal floods. Dugout canoes are used to navigate past birdlife, hippos and crocodiles on waterways like the Xakanaxa Lagoon. On land, wildlife includes lion, leopard and rhino. Safari camps are common, with several dotted around Chief's Island and the forested Mopane Tongue Peninsula.
*Savuti – The Savuti area is a rich game area in the Chobe National Park, with diverse environments such as mophane woodland, the Savuti Channel and a number of spectacular waterholes. It is secretly located away from the peak season crowds at the Chobe riverfront.
*Chobe National Park - Chobe National Park is in northern Botswana near the vast, inland Okavango Delta. It's known for its large herds of elephants and Cape buffalo, which converge along the Chobe riverfront in the dry months. Lions, antelopes and hippos inhabit the woods and lagoons around the Linyanti Marsh. The floodable grasslands of the Savuti Marsh attract numerous bird species, plus migrating zebras.
*Nxai Pan National Park - Nxai Pan National Park is a national park in north eastern Botswana, consisting of Nxai Pan, which is one of the Makgadikgadi Pan salt flats. Approximately 30kms from the Nxai Pan National Park entrance, Baines’ Baobabs are a highlight for any visitor travelling this area of the country. The seven huge baobab trees, named after the 19th century explorer Thomas Baines, are situated on an island overlooking and surrounded by the white, crusty Kudiakam Pan. Huge herds of zebra, wildebeest, springbok and gemsbok attract many predators - lion, cheetah and both brown and spotted hyena. There are large numbers of bat eared fox, which prey on rodents and reptiles.
*Makgadikgadi Pans National Park - The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, a salt pan with an area of 3 900 square kilometers is situated in the middle of the dry savannah of north eastern Botswana. It is one of the largest salt flats in the world. The pan is all that remains of the formerly enormous Lake Makgadikgadi. They are an important habitat for migrating animals including wildebeest and one of Africa’s biggest zebra populations, and the large predators that prey on them. The wet season also brings migratory birds such as ducks, geese and great white pelicans. The pan is home of one of only two breeding populations of greater flamingos in southern Africa, and only on the Sowa Pan, which is part of the Makgadikgadi pans. Wildlife includes eland, lion, zebra, cheetah, gemsbok, springbok, red hartebeest, bushbuck, giraffe, steenbok, elephant and many more.
*Central Kalahari Game Reserve – The central Kalahari Game Reserve covers a large section of central Botswana. Its harsh, sprawling terrain is dominated by grasslands, home to wildlife such as giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas and wild dogs. There are several fossilized river valleys, including Deception Valley, which offer basic campsites. Dirt tracks wind south through the reserve’s remote landscapes to Piper’s Pan area.
*Tsodilo Hills – The hills are classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and feature thousands of rock paintings. It is one of Botswana’s greatest treasures, an ancient San Bushmen rock art site that offers a once in a lifetime experience. Take a guided tour that covers walking trails as well as artifacts and paintings.
*Tswapong Hills – Waterfalls are a highlight among this destination near Goo Moremi. Baboons and leopards are also prominently featured in the area surrounding the hills. If you do visit, be on the lookout for the butterflies that live throughout the surrounding area.
*Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park – This large park features over three million hectares of land as well as dry expanses that highlight raptors and eagles. Six camps throughout the park offer their own viewing experiences but an all-terrain vehicle is required to reach any location.
*Khama Rhino Sanctuary – Affording the opportunity to see both black and white rhino, as well as an abundance of other wildlife species, Khama Rhino Sanctuary is a delightful stopover for tourists travelling by road to Botswana’s northern reserves, or an ideal weekend getaway for Gaborone or Francistown visitors or residents, etc. Take your time in individual self-drives or look to guided tours around the sanctuary. Each offer great views of black and white rhinos. Chalets as well as dorms are available in addition to traditional camping options.

The night drive is an especially interesting journey that highlights nocturnal animals, as well as starry skies. Integrating the above places of interest into our tours, we offer the following tours:
*Mobile Tented Safaris – While on a mobile safari, you will be camping in campsites in the parks, reserves and wilderness areas of Botswana. Mobile safaris are just that - mobile. Moving between areas where one generally spends between two to four nights in each area before moving on to the next. This gives your party a chance to really observe each region’s wildlife and landscape distinctions. Aside from moving to your next camp destination you have a set schedule to keep every day. Accommodation is provided in comfortable 2-man 3meters x 3meters safari or meru tents with a hand-wash basin, stretcher, a pillow, duvet and sheets. All trips are accompanied by a professional guide, an experienced chef and camp assistant. Our staff will perform all camp duties but clients may be expected to assist with the lighter work. However, there are different levels - fully participating ones (erect your own tent, help with cooking, etc.) to ones where staff organize everything for you.
If the group size is small-up to five(5) or six people(6)-then we will travel in one vehicle with all our equipment in a trailer. The trailer will serve as our camp kitchen. The cook will prepare meals from fresh ingredients with fruit, vegetables, including fresh bread which is baked daily, all on an open fire. There will be a meat dish cooked for dinner each evening followed by a tasty desert. Finally, a bathroom is attached to your tent with a long drop toilet that is dug on site and a proper toilet seat provided. A hot bucket shower is available after each day of game viewing. We can also arrange a fully inclusive package (all meals and activities included), staying in lodges and luxury camps with large, walk-in pre-erected tents.
*Day Trips – A day trip to Moremi Game Reserve, Makgadikgadi Pans National Park or Nxai Pan National Park enables you to see the wonders of Botswana’s amazing wildlife. Departing from Maun in the morning, you will be picked up from your lodge or hotel in Maun before heading to the park or reserve where you can expect to spend 5 to 6 hours of the day on a safari game drive, accompanied by a professional guide.
