Full Moon Over the Mara: When the Migration Meets Magic Hour
We timed our trip for the "Mara Super Moon"—when the migration coincides with lunar perigee. Queen Roseline’s team encouraged us to make the trip during that time and we thought they were nuts… until we saw the results.
Imagine:
🌕 20,000 wildebeest flowing like mercury under moonlight
🌕 Silhouetted lions hunting in monochrome brilliance
🌕 Our guide using his red-filter flashlight to spotlight owls without disturbing them
The lodge surprised us with a "moonrise dinner" on the plains, complete with Maasai star legends. By midnight, we were shooting star trails over acacias, drunk on the universe’s generosity.
Technical perks:
Charging stations for our gear at the remote bush camp
Guides who understood golden hour vs. blue hour vs. "oh-God-shoot-now hour"
A backup jeep when we (embarrassingly) drained the battery running time-lapses
Forget standard safaris. This was nature’s IMAX.
We look forward to going on other trips with Queen Roseline Safaris since we want to explore Kenya and the rest of East Africa.
