Following breakfast, you'll set off with a packed lunch and relish a game drive on your way to the Mara River to witness the wildebeest crossing. When the great migration takes place in the region (July–September), wildlife sightings along the Mara River are truly spectacular. The Serengeti Mara is the optimal spot in the national park to witness these dry-season crossings of wildebeests. During the migration season, vast herds of wildebeest, along with their companions, gather on one side of the Mara River. It can sometimes take a while (even up to several days) before one courageous animal decides to cross the river; after that, the others will follow. Interestingly, these herds can occasionally move back and forth across the river without any clear reason.
