Full Game Drive in Akagera

Begin your day with a leisurely breakfast at the lodge before heading to Lake Ihema for a guided boat ride at 9:00 a.m. Glide across the calm waters as you spot papyrus gonoleks, kingfishers, and perhaps the rare shoebill stork hidden among the reeds. After the cruise, return to the jetty and meet your guide for a full-day game drive through Akagera’s southern plains, including the scenic giraffe area and the lakes road toward Birengero.

Pause midday for a hot lunch at Lake Mihindi Restaurant, surrounded by tranquil park views. In the afternoon, continue your adventure in search of buffalo, lions, antelope, and with a bit of luck, elusive leopards or the reintroduced white rhinos. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Akagera to Kigali

After breakfast at the lodge, head out for one last early morning game drive, making the most of the cool hours when animals are most active. It’s your final opportunity to catch any wildlife you may have missed—perhaps graceful antelopes, grazing zebras, or a predator on the move.

As the morning unfolds, begin your scenic return journey toward Kigali, driving leisurely through the park for a few final glimpses of Akagera’s wildlife and landscapes. Stop along the way for lunch at a local roadside restaurant, where you can enjoy classic Rwandan dishes such as brochettes (grilled meat skewers) and fresh seasonal produce.
