Arrival and Addis Ababa City Tour

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, you’ll be met by an Essence Ethiopia Tours representative and transferred to your hotel. Begin your city tour with a drive to Mount Entoto for panoramic views and a visit to Maryam Church and the Entoto Museum. Continue to the Institute of Ethiopian Studies and the National Museum, home of the 3.2-million-year-old fossil “Lucy.” After lunch, visit Trinity Cathedral, the burial site of Emperor Haile Selassie, and explore Mercato, Africa’s largest open-air market.

Debre Libanos Excursion

Depart Addis Ababa in the morning for a scenic drive north to Debre Libanos Monastery, founded in the 13th century by Saint Tekle Haymanot. Visit the monastery and its museum, then walk to the Portuguese Bridge, offering stunning views of the Jemma Gorge and a 60-meter waterfall. Spot endemic Gelada monkeys and birds of prey along the cliffs. Return to Addis Ababa in the late afternoon.
