Day 1
Ngorongoro Crater – A UNESCO World Heritage Site
Formed about 2 to 3 million years ago after a massive volcanic eruption, the Ngorongoro Crater is around 610 meters (2,000 feet) deep and about 20 kilometres (12 miles) in diameter, making it the largest intact caldera in the world.
The crater hosts a dense population of wildlife, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), and supports around 25,000 large animals year-round. It is also home to the endangered black rhino and large numbers of flamingos at Lake Magadi, a soda lake within the crater.
Beyond its natural wonders, Ngorongoro is deeply connected to human history, with nearby sites like Olduvai Gorge, where some of the earliest human remains have been discovered.
