After breakfast, depart Serengeti for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for an extraordinary concentration of wildlife. The crater floor is home to lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and, with luck, the endangered black rhino. Thanks to its enclosed ecosystem, wildlife viewing is exceptional throughout the year.
Enjoy a picnic lunch near a hippo pool while taking in the stunning surroundings. In the afternoon, ascend the crater and proceed to a nearby budget lodge or campsite for dinner and overnight.
