Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Welcome to Rwanda – On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative (Your full safari – driver guide). After a short briefing about the safari, you will go for a short Kigali City Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Kimironko Market and other amazing sites.
After lunch, you will embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park. It is a journey of approximately 3 hours through the rolling hills, when you arrive in Ruhengeri you will proceed to your lodge for check-in, enjoy dinner and overnight stay.

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early for breakfast at your lodge, meet your driver-guide and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right way to behave. In groups of 8 people, you will depart for your gorilla trek into the rain forest in search for the gorillas.
The gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park takes 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night, the trek gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself into the strange but intimate part of the rainforest where you will hear live calls of the beautiful birds and other primates. When you locate the gorillas, you will have an opportunity to spend one hour in the presence of the gorillas, observing the gorillas as they play, feed and groom each other.
Return from the forest and drive back to the lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Optional Second Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will return to Volcanoes National Park for another gorilla trekking experience, this time you will be trekking a different gorilla family and gain a different perspective of gorillas. Watch their different family dynamics as well as individuals.

Dian Fossey Hike

After breakfast, you will return to the park, this time for Dian Fossey Hike on which you will visit the grave of Dian Fossey an American primatologist whose tremendous conservation efforts and research are the reasons to why gorilla trekking is possible.
You will have an insight into her tremendous work and visit the Karisoke Centre where you will witness her life in the Virunga Forests. Later, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you will go for a cultural experience in the Iby’Iwacu Village where you will be entertained by local dances and drama, take part in crowning the King and get a taste of local dishes. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Departure

After a leisurely breakfast, bid farewell to the lodge and embark on a journey back to Kigali City where you will be dropped off either at your lodge or at the airport to catch your flight back home or to your next destination.
