Day 1
Begin your day with a guided bicycle tour through the vibrant streets of Soweto. Tours depart from Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers at 10:00, 13:00, and 15:00. Cycling offers a relaxed and engaging way to explore the neighbourhood while learning about its culture, history, and daily life.
Ride along the famous Vilakazi Street, known as the only street in the world where two Nobel Peace Prize winners once lived. Nelson Mandela’s former home, now the Mandela House Museum, is located here and tells the story of his life and legacy.
Continue to the Hector Pieterson Museum, which shares the history of the 1976 Soweto Uprising and honours the students who protested for equal education during apartheid.
You will also see the colourful Orlando Towers, once part of a power station and now one of Soweto’s most recognisable landmarks.
After the morning tour, guests on the early departure can enjoy a traditional African-style lunch before returning to Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers.
