Drive from Addis Ababa to Awash National Park

Depart from Addis Ababa in the morning and enjoy a scenic drive through the Ethiopian Rift Valley, passing small towns and striking volcanic landscapes before arriving at Awash National Park.

After lunch, set out on an afternoon game drive to spot wildlife such as oryx, gazelles, baboons, and warthogs. The park is also a haven for birdlife—keep an eye out for species like the ostrich, secretary bird, Abyssinian ground hornbill, and various eagles and kingfishers.

Visit the spectacular Awash Falls, where the Awash River plunges into a dramatic gorge, offering both breathtaking views and excellent birdwatching opportunities.

Wildlife & Nature Exploration

Start early with a sunrise game drive in Awash National Park—the best time to spot wildlife such as kudu, hartebeest, and even crocodiles along the riverbanks.

Later, explore the park’s diverse landscapes, from open savannah and acacia woodland to striking volcanic formations. Awash is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to over 300 species, including the Abyssinian ground hornbill, secretary bird, Somali ostrich, and colorful bee-eaters and kingfishers.

Return to Addis Ababa

After breakfast, begin your scenic return journey to Addis Ababa through the Rift Valley. Along the way, enjoy views of volcanic landscapes, acacia-dotted plains, and local villages.

Optional stops can include roadside markets, where you can experience local life and shop for handmade crafts, fresh fruits, or traditional items, as well as scenic viewpoints perfect for photos and a final appreciation of the region’s natural beauty.
