Day 1

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and begin a guided walk through the lush Magamba Rainforest, home to black-and-white colobus monkeys and diverse birdlife. During the walk, you visit a historic trench dug by German forces during World War I, where your guide will share fascinating insights into German and British colonial history in the region. You continue exploring the forest before going back to Rangwi, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2
Cultural Walk and Magumba Viewpoint
Cultural Walk and Magumba Viewpoint
After breakfast, you will embark on a scenic walk through the traditional villages of the Wasambaa people. You will experience authentic rural life, visit local farms, and meet a women’s pottery group to learn about traditional craftsmanship. You proceed to Magumba Viewpoint, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Usambara Mountains. From here, you will enjoy sweeping views of the Maasai plains, Mkomazi National Park, and even Tsavo West National Park in Kenya. On clear days, you may also catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro on the horizon. You will enjoy sunset views before dinner, and your overnight stay will be at Magumba.

Day 3
Magumba to Mazumbai Forest
Magumba to Mazumbai Forest
After breakfast, you will depart by private vehicle towards Mazumbai. En route, you will visit Sakarani Mission, where you will explore a local vineyard and learn how traditional grape wine is produced. You continue to Herkulu village to visit tea plantations and a tea factory. You gain insight into how tea is cultivated, harvested, and processed by local communities. You arrive at Mazumbai Forest Reserve in the afternoon for a guided nature walk through one of East Africa’s last remaining primary forests. Later, you will proceed to Mazumbai Forest Hostel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4
Mazumbai Rainforest – Transfer to Mombo
Mazumbai Rainforest – Transfer to Mombo
You'll start your day with a morning hike in the pristine Mazumbai Rainforest, a unique and untouched ecosystem within the West Usambara Mountains. This biodiversity hotspot is home to colobus monkeys, colorful birds, butterflies, chameleons, and a wide variety of plant species. After the hike, you will depart by private vehicle to Mombo with a packed lunch en route. Upon arrival, you connect to public transport for your onward journey to Arusha or Dar es Salaam.
