Drive through the dramatic Afar landscape to Afdera, a small town on the shores of Lake Afrera, where you will stop for lunch and a short break. Continue across the volcanic desert to the base of Erta Ale, one of the world's few volcanoes with a permanent lava lake. In the late afternoon, begin a 25-minute trek to the summit. As darkness falls, witness the mesmerizing glow and bubbling lava from the crater rim, creating an unforgettable experience. After enjoying this spectacular natural wonder, descend to the campsite for dinner and an overnight stay under the stars near Erta Ale.
