Tarangire national park

Tarangire is particularly famous for its large elephant population. Herds of more than 300 elephants are commonly seen gathering along the Tarangire River, where they drink, bathe, and interact in complex family groups. Watching these majestic animals roam beneath towering baobab trees is one of the park's most memorable experiences. Tarangire is considered one of the best places in East Africa to observe elephants behaving naturally in large social herds. The park supports an impressive diversity of mammals, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, African buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, elands, hartebeests, waterbucks, warthogs, and several species of gazelles. Tarangire is also one of the few places in Tanzania where visitors may spot less common species such as fringe eared oryx and the long necked gerenuk, an antelope known for standing on its hind legs to browse leaves from shrubs and small trees.
