Lalibela Highlands Trek – Asheton Mariam Monastery & Wedebye Community

Your Ethiopian Highlands trekking adventure begins at 6:00 AM. Accompanied by an experienced trekking guide, horse handlers, and a dedicated camp chef, hike through breathtaking mountain landscapes and traditional villages.
After approximately two hours, reach the historic Asheton Mariam Monastery, dramatically perched at 3,200 meters above sea level. Enjoy a picnic breakfast with stunning panoramic views before continuing your hike across the scenic highlands.
Arrived in Wedebye Highland Community during the afternoon for lunch and an authentic cultural experience. Meet local farming families, learn about traditional rural lifestyles, and experience genuine Ethiopian hospitality.

Trek to Abune Yosef Mountain, 4260masl

Following a traditional breakfast with your host family, continue trekking through spectacular mountain trails and picturesque highland villages toward Abune Yosef Mountain, one of Ethiopia's premier trekking destinations.
Ascend from approximately 3,340 meters to over 4,200 meters above sea level while enjoying magnificent scenery and open alpine landscapes. Stop for a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint before reaching the summit.
This protected mountain habitat offers opportunities to observe the endangered Ethiopian wolf, large troops of Gelada baboons, and numerous endemic Ethiopian highland bird species. Spend the evening surrounded by breathtaking wilderness.

Abune Yosef – Drive Back to Lalibela
