Day 1

After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, you will depart for Tarangire National Park with packed lunch boxes in hand for a full-day game drive. Tarangire has a diverse landscape with nine vegetation zones. Ancient baobab trees, some of the largest trees in Africa, dot the landscape, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. The Tarangire River meanders through the park and attracts an abundance of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and a variety of colorful birds.
The park is famous for having one of the largest elephant populations in Tanzania, and during your safari, you will have the chance to quietly observe many families of elephants interacting. Stop for a picnic lunch at a viewpoint inside the park, where you can watch animals drinking from the river and, at times, lions attacking thirsty zebras or wildebeest. Continue with your game drive afterward.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Eyasi and meet with the Hadzabe, one of Africa’s last nomadic tribes, for a fascinating hunting or fruit-gathering experience. This unique and off-the-beaten-path experience offers an authentic cultural encounter and excellent opportunities for photography. After spending some time with the tribe, vou will visit the beautiful Lake Eyasi, a seasonal shallow salt lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley at the base of the Serengeti Plateau. If possible, you can join the tribesmen on a hunting expedition, share lunch with them, and learn how they make traditional herbal medicines. Later, you will drive to Karatu for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 3

After breakfast, you will depart for the famous Serengeti National Park, home of the Great Migration. The drive today is spectacular as you travel through the crater highlands, stopping at the rim for a bird’s-eye view of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. Continuing onward, as you crest the hillside, the vast Serengeti spreads out before you as far as the eye can see.
Serengeti means “endless plains” in Kiswahili, and this 18,000 sq. km park is inhabited by more than two million large animals, including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles. Large predators, including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, are drawn to the area by this abundance of prey, which migrates throughout the park. Many smaller animals, such as rock hyraxes, bat-eared foxes, mongooses, honey badgers, jackals, monkeys, baboons, and African hares, also inhabit the area, along with nearly 500 species of birds.

Day 4

Today you will wake up very early for a sunrise game drive before breakfast to spot animals when they are most active. Sunrise on the African savannah is one of the most beautiful experiences one can have. After the early morning game drive, return to the camp for a late breakfast. After breakfast, continue exploring the Central Serengeti region on more game drives, looking out for big cats and large herbivores. Enjoy lunch at the camp before heading out for an afternoon game drive. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the camp.

Day 5

After an early breakfast, you will drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and then descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the eighth natural wonder of the world. With walls rising 2,000 ft high and a crater floor covering 102 sq. miles, the crater is a virtual Noah’s Ark, inhabited by almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa, including the rare black rhino. In fact, the crater has one of the greatest concentrations of wildlife on the planet.
The crater contains a river, several swamps, a soda lake that looks like steam from above, flamingos, a forest, and open plains. The large bull elephants that reside here have extremely large tusks, which are attributed to the rich mineral content of the volcanic soil and grasses. They are among the most incredible elephants you will ever see. After your game drive inside the crater, drive back to Arusha, where you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
