Pick-up in Kigali & drive to Bwindi/Mgahinga National Park

A driver-guide from Uzuri Uganda Safaris picks you up from your hotel in Kigali or from a convenient public place and you drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The park we travel to depends on where we have secured your gorilla permits. It is a short drive of about 3 hours. When you factor in the border crossing delays at Gatuna or Cyanika, you should arrive in Bwindi or Kisoro town in the early evening. Check in at Travelers Rest Kisoro or similar and have the rest of the day to yourself. Later, enjoy dinner and your overnight stay.

Gorilla trek & transfer to Kigali

Wake up at 5.30 am and enjoy your breakfast. At 6.30 am, you transfer to the specific gate of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park. The terrain is steep – so a good degree of fitness is required for the trek. You are allocated a gorilla family in groups of 8 trackers as well as a guide with armed rangers. Expect to walk/hike for between 2 and 8 hours in steep, and sometimes muddy, conditions. However, the thrill of meeting a large mountain gorilla family led by a huge silverback completely makes up for the effort. When you finally locate the gorilla family that you are tracking, sit in the forest among the gorillas, see them go about their day, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male - the silverback.

After the allowed 1 hour is up, you will be led back to the trailhead where your driver-guide will be waiting for you to commence the drive back to Kigali. You will be dropped off at your hotel or place of preference.
