Day 1

Arusha Town Tarangire National Park

Arusha Town Tarangire National Park

We will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Tarangire National Park. Enjoy a game drive through the park (lunch included).

The park derived its name from the Tarangire River that rises in the highlands of Central Tanzania and winds its way through the game sanctuary. The animals visit in their thousands, from as far north as the shores of Lake Natron to the bank of this river. The resident wildlife includes wildebeest, zebra, eland, elephant, hartebeest, buffalo and the fringe-eared oryx. During the dry season, the Tarangire pools are clotted with thirsty migrants, and the elephants begin to dig for underground streams in the dry riverbed. Tarangire National Park is said to have the highest recorded number of breeding bird species in the world. Head to Panorama Safari Camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

After an early breakfast at the camp, depart for a full-day game drive exploring the Serengeti. Stop for lunch at one of the picnic sites inside the park, then proceed with the game drive. At 4 pm, return to the camp with an en-route game drive.

The Big Five (lion, rhino, leopard, elephant and buffalo) defines the ultimate African safari experience. Seeing these impressive animals, roaming freely in their own habitat, is something you will never forget. You might wonder, however, why those specific animals are part of the Big Five? Is a giraffe not large as well? Here is a factoid: the term ‘Big Five’ was coined by big-game hunters and is not derived from the size of the animals. These animals proved to be the most difficult to hunt, mostly due to their ferocity when cornered.

The Ngorongoro Crater in Northern Tanzania, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 m deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth.
