Day 1

Arusha - Ngorongoro Crater

Arusha - Ngorongoro Crater

After your leisure breakfast at your hotel, you will proceed to Ngorongoro Crater often referred to as a Wonder of the World for an early morning game drive.

First, there’s the volcanic caldera (the world’s largest), full of grasslands, forests and swamps, a setting of jaw-dropping beauty. Secondly, the permanent water of the crater floor supports a resident population of more than 25,000 large mammals. Here you’ll find many of the reasons you chose to come on safari: elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals, wallowing hippos, waterbucks, baboons and even the rare black rhino finds shelter here.

Sharing this awesome space with the animals are the Maasai, grazing their cattle in an area that has been a separate conservation area since 1956 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. This harmonious co-habitation of man and beast makes Ngorongoro unique in Tanzania and your driver/guide will be pleased to explain this incredible co-existence to you.

Fully-Day Game Drive in Northern Serengeti National Park

As you awake for a second day in Northern Serengeti, you can contemplate that parts of this northern area can easily match the Southern Serengeti because of the abundance of wildlife viewing, especially between July and September. After your breakfast, you will embark with your driver-guide on a full-day game drive, looking out for elephants and buffalos, elands and gazelles. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to spot something really special: perhaps a cheetah, or even a rare black rhino, of which a small population is resident here. Of course, during these months the Great Migration remains the real focus, with the mighty Mara River proving the obstacle for wildebeests as they seek to cross to and from the Masai Mara National Reserve in neighboring Kenya.
