Karanga Camp (3959m) – Barafu Hut (4600m)
After breakfast, leave Karanga Camp (3959m) and hike for an hour to reach Barafu Hut. This is the last water stop for the porters as there is no accessible water at Barafu Camp (4550m). Barafu means "ice" in Swahili, and this camp is located on a rocky, exposed ridge. Tents will be exposed to wind and rocks so hikers should familiarize themselves with the campsite before dark. An early dinner will be served to rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will brief you on how to prepare for summit night. Sleep by 19:00.
Summit Attempt
At nightfall, the departure from Barafu Camp, nestled at an elevation of 4,640 meters, marks the commencement of the journey towards the summit of Kilimanjaro, known as Uhuru Peak, towering at an altitude of 5,895 meters. Although the ascent itself isn't technically challenging, the formidable obstacle remains the high altitude. Each pair of climbers will be partnered with a dedicated guide who will accompany them throughout the ascent, closely monitoring their physical and mental well-being. Upon reaching the summit of Uhuru Peak, you'll have the option to descend to the nearest glacier if you desire, before returning to Barafu Camp for a well-deserved 2-hour rest. Following this interlude, the descent will continue, leading you to Millennium Camp, positioned at an elevation of 3,820 meters.
