Tsavo East National Park is one of Kenya's largest and wildest national parks. The rugged landscape is best known for its lions (many of the males have very scruffy manes, if at all), and for its many elephants coated in Tsavo's distinctive red dust. The park's east is generally excellent for cheetah sightings, while other elusive species include the Somali ostrich, gerenuk and the extremely rare hirola antelope. Nearly 500 bird species have been sighted here.
