Day 2
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park
The Tarangire River runs through the park year-round, drawing giraffe, zebra, antelope and buffalo to its banks – and the lions that follow them. They are regularly seen and, in this park, not difficult to find.
In the dry season the river becomes the only water source for miles around, and elephant herds converge accordingly. Tarangire holds the largest elephant population in northern Tanzania for much of the year – particularly June to October and December to March. The herds are well habituated to vehicles and often approach at close range, unhurried and largely indifferent.

Day 3
Rest & Cultural Trip to Mto Wa Mbu Village
Rest & Cultural Trip to Mto Wa Mbu Village
The morning is spent in Mto wa Mbu, a market town where over 120 tribal communities have settled over generations – and where that mix shows in the food, the crafts, and the pace of daily life. On foot with a guide, you'll move through the village, past traditional homesteads, the local market, and a banana plantation where children can see how much a single plant is used for – food, building materials, even art. Local woodcarvers and artists are usually happy to show what they're working on and explain the thinking behind it.
The afternoon is at Gibbs Farm, where children can join nature walks, help with animal feeding, or pick fresh produce. A quieter pace after the morning, and a different kind of discovery.

Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater
An early start is worth it here – and a packed breakfast means you can be on the crater floor before the morning light fades and other vehicles arrive. The caldera holds one of the highest concentrations of wildlife per square kilometre on the continent: buffalo, elephant, lion, wildebeest, zebra and hippo are all resident, along with the more elusive serval and caracal. A small population of black rhino lives here too – one of the more compelling reasons to keep scanning the open grassland.
Lunch is by the hippo lake, before continuing the drive or heading directly to your next lodge, depending on how the morning unfolds.
