Day 1

Arusha to Manyara National Park

Arusha to Manyara National Park

We drive through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park with a full-day game drive. The landscapes of Lake Manyara are difficult to describe in words, and the game drives along the lake provide excellent photo opportunities.

Although small (205 square miles), the park offers breathtaking scenery and is known for its huge mahogany trees, giant figs, lush acacia forest, and a growing population of blue monkeys and baboons. Permanent residents of this park also include impalas, giraffes, elephants, and large numbers of buffalo. The lake is home to an abundance of hippos. The park has several special features and is famous for its tree-climbing lions, the flamingos on the lakeshore, and the crested eagle and hornbill. Some additional tours are possible, including a bike ride or a boat excursion.

In the afternoon, we transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu

You will get up very early to experience a magical sunrise that you will never forget. Go on a game drive when the animals are more active and the nocturnal predators are still out on the hunt. This is one of the nicest experiences you can have.

Later, you will leave Serengeti and head to the Ngorongoro Crater where you descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephant. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopards (which sometimes require a trained eye to spot).

You will enjoy lunch inside the crater and later depart to Karatu for dinner and overnight.
