Here, you'll board the comfortable Madaraka Express for a scenic, smooth rail journey across the Kenyan landscape towards the coast. Arriving at Mombasa's terminus in the afternoon, your private driver-guide will greet you for a direct road transfer to the tranquil shores of Watamu. After checking into your beachfront hotel, the adventure truly begins with a magical guided glass-bottom boat tour over the vibrant coral gardens of the Watamu Marine National Park. As the day winds down, a peaceful sunset stroll on the soft sand sets the tone before a delicious dinner and your first restful night to the sound of the Indian Ocean.

Turtles, Dunes & Dramatic Landscape

Your day of discovery begins at the Gede Ruins. Wander through the ancient stone streets of this 12th-century Swahili town, now enveloped by the Arabuko Sokoke Forest, and uncover its mysterious past. Continue your journey of conservation at the Local Ocean Conservation center, learning about sea turtle rehabilitation. Next, travel to the Marafa Depression (Hell's Kitchen) to witness its awe-inspiring, multi-colored sandstone canyons carved by erosion. The adventure culminates at the Mamrui Sand Dunes for an exhilarating sandboarding session followed by a picnic lunch with ocean views. Return to Watamu for leisure time before a memorable farewell seafood dinner on the beach.

Mangroves & Return to Nairobi via SGR

Day three offers a gentle conclusion to your coastal journey. After breakfast and checkout, visit the serene Mida Creek Boardwalk. Stroll through the tranquil mangrove forest on the elevated walkway, a haven for wading birds and marine life. Afterwards, begin your comfortable return trip with a private road transfer to the Mombasa SGR terminus. Board the modern Madaraka Express train for a scenic afternoon ride back to the capital, watching the coastal landscape transition to plains. Upon arrival at Nairobi Station in the evening, you will be met and transferred to your hotel or to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your Coastal Wonders Safari.
