Arrival in Hoedspruit & Transfer to Xanatseni Private Camp

On arrival at Hoedspruit Airport, you will be met and transferred to Xanatseni Private Camp in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. This intimate, thatched camp offers a relaxed atmosphere, with just a handful of rooms overlooking a waterhole often visited by wildlife. Game drives are led by experienced guides and trackers, giving you opportunities to spot the Big Five and more in a beautiful, unfenced wilderness. Between drives, you'll enjoy the pool, gym, & viewing deck positioned near the waterhole at the entrance to camp, or simply unwind in the peaceful surroundings. Evenings are spent around the fire under the stars in the boma, sharing stories of the day’s sightings. The pool deck has sun loungers to relax on.

The chalets are well furnished, with air-con, and all have a large, full bathroom. The rooms face the tranquil garden with towering fever trees. The main lounge area is spacious and comfy, with various couches and private spaces to enjoy.

Game Drives in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve

You'll wake up to the sounds of the bush and head out on a sunrise game drive in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. As part of the Greater Kruger, Klaserie shares unfenced borders with Kruger National Park, allowing wildlife to roam freely. Expect excellent sightings of elephants, lions, and possibly even the elusive wild dogs. You'll return to the camp for a relaxed breakfast and leisure time by the pool. In the afternoon, another game drive takes you deeper into this wild and less crowded reserve, ending with a night drive to spot nocturnal predators.

On the morning drive, there is a stop for coffee. On the afternoon drive, you will stop for sundowners. Stops usually take place in scenic, open areas. Sundowners are drinks of your choice, and are usually accompanied by a few snacks.

For the more energetic, each day after breakfast, there is the option of a short morning bush walk. This needs to be requested, and is weather permitting.

Transfer to Umkumbe Safari Lodge, Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve

After a final morning game drive and breakfast at Xanatseni, you'll transfer to the southern sector of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, arriving at Umkumbe Safari Lodge. Overlooking the seasonal Sand River, the lodge offers front-row views of wildlife right from the deck. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with daily game drives led by skilled guides in one of South Africa’s most renowned Big Five areas. In between activities, you can unwind by the pool, enjoy the river views, or simply soak up the sounds of the bush.

Umkumbe’s Superior Suites are spacious, offering enhanced comfort, with their own small private deck with sun loungers. Each suite features a king-size bed, indoor and outdoor showers, and air conditioning. Rooms are designed to blend modern touches with natural textures; these suites provide an exclusive yet relaxed retreat. All rooms have tea and coffee-making facilities.

Game Drives in Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve

Umkumbe’s game drives are the heart of the safari experience. Each day features two exhilarating outings, one at dawn and one in the afternoon, that include that quintessential safari pastime —a sundowner stop in the bush! These twice-daily activities are led by knowledgeable, friendly guides.

Umkumbe traverses its own 1,000 ha concession. This expanse allows for quieter tracks and intimate wildlife encounters, offering the chance to approach the Big Five and observe lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and other iconic species at close range from open 4×4 vehicles.

After a final morning safari and breakfast, you'll transfer to either Skukuza Airport or Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for your onward journey.

You'll extend your adventure with a few days in Cape Town, exploring its vibrant culture, winelands, and coastline, or add a visit to Victoria Falls for a spectacular finale to your epic safari.

This safari often includes an add-on to visit the Panorama Route, a scenic drive on the Escarpment overlooking the Lowveld.
