Day 2
Gorilla Trekking in Southern Bwindi
Gorilla Trekking in Southern Bwindi
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll be driven to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park headquarters for a mandatory briefing on gorilla trekking. The park rangers will provide essential information on trekking safety, environmental protocols, and guidelines for interacting with the gorillas. These rules help protect both the endangered mountain gorillas and the visitors who come to see them.
Once the briefing is complete, you’ll be grouped with other trekkers (usually 8 per group) and assigned a gorilla family to track. Each group is accompanied by skilled guides and trackers who are familiar with the gorillas’ habits and terrain. The trek itself can range from a relatively easy 2-hour walk to a more challenging 6-hour hike, depending on where the gorilla families are located that day. As you navigate through the thick foliage of Bwindi’s ancient forest, you’ll encounter stunning flora and fauna, from towering trees to colorful bird species.
